O Ashtray from C.A.O

Posted: Monday, May 19, 2008

By Gregory Mottola

If you are a traditionalist when it comes to your smoking gear, then the O Ashtray is not for you. If you have an artsy, postmodern side that struggles with the principles of utilitarianism, then C.A.O.’s ceramic creation might bring the perfect combination of form, function and art to your cigar smoking experience. It’s contoured, it’s contemporary and, assuming the glossy, maraschino cherry red paint job doesn’t clash with your decor, it will hold your cigars quite artfully between puffs.

If you’re wondering about the ovular, basin shape, the O Ashtray was fashioned to mimic the oblong letter O in the C.A.O. logo which, of course, stands for Ozgener, the surname of the company’s founder and patriarch, Cano A. Ozgener.

Although a bit avant-garde in design, this ashtray works like any other. Three large cigar grooves sculpted into the edge of one side say everything that needs to be said about the O’s intended use.

The body measures 11 inches long by seven inches wide with a three-inch-deep bowl. You’re in luck if red is your color because that’s the only way the ashtray comes. It retails for $29.95 and includes a protective black felt, pull-string sack, making this package as practical as it is hip.
