Pepin's Newest: My Father

Posted: Monday, July 21, 2008

By David Savona

Jose “Pepin” Garcia unveiled his latest cigar brand at the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers trade show last week in Las Vegas—My Father. The full-bodied Nicaraguan cigar is the first by Garcia to feature tobacco that he grows for himself.

The My Father blend is a powerhouse with balanced, rich flavor. The wrapper is grown in Ecuador from Cuban seed by the Oliva Tobacco Co., which historically has focused on growing Sumatran seed in Ecuador. The filler is a mix of Nicaraguan tobaccos.

The cigar comes in four sizes and retails for around $10 per cigar. It will be on the market in early September and will become a regular production brand. Only about 50,000 were made. “Next year we’ll make more as we process more leaves,” said Garcia’s son, Jaime.
