One out of eight people in America is struggling with the reality of hunger—and that doesn't mean they skipped lunch—they actually aren't sure where their next meal may come from. Read more
Posted: 10:17 AM ET, 11/14/08I went to Club Macanudo last night with some friends. I was hardly ready for another cigar; we’d spent the afternoon working through the final selection for the next Top Cigar of the Year. A bit smoked out, and tired, I walked up Madison Avenue, past stores still lit up but empty of shoppers, and that was a nerve-wracking reminder of all the financial news that had been flashing across my computer screen all day—and Thursday was a good, albeit pretty tumultuous, day on Wall Street. Posted: 01:45 PM ET, 11/10/08I’m back in my chair Monday morning after a great Big Smoke Weekend in Las Vegas. Even though we didn’t top last year’s numbers, there was a huge turnout. Like always, there was a sea of happy faces, and everyone was drinking and smoking and generally having a great time. Read more
Posted: 04:32 PM ET, 11/05/08The other day I grabbed the uptown subway to make my way to Davidoff of Geneva on Madison Avenue. Jon Huber and Frank Kapp from C.A.O. International Inc. had flown into town, part of their C.A.O. Rock N Rolled Tour. I wanted to say hello—Jon and I go way back—and I think the Lx2 is the best blend C. Read more
Posted: 04:17 PM ET, 10/30/08Two bottles of moonshine just landed on my desk.
Well, not technically moonshine, but it's labeled as such. The 'shine in question is Junior Johnson's Midnight Moon and Catdaddy Carolina Moonshine, and it does have the seal of approval from Mr. Read more

Five hundred of them.
That was obviously the good news part of this blog. The bad news? They’re not for me. Read more

Posted: 05:02 PM ET, 10/16/08Life is tough in the countryside in Cuba. Anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't know. I spent most of Tuesday visiting some tobacco plantations. Most were in the Vuelta Abajo, or Vegas Finas part of the tobacco area near the towns of San Luis and San Juan y Martinez. Read more
Posted: 03:25 PM ET, 10/15/08Few people have dunked over Michael Jordan. One man who did—and did it emphatically, in a big game situation—is John Starks.
If you watched New York Knicks basketball in the 1990s, you know John Starks very well. He was the dynamic, damn the torpedoes, full-speed ahead shooting guard for the Pat Riley era Knickerbockers, and he played with fire, passion and guts. Read more
Posted: 09:38 AM ET, 10/14/08I am heading out to Pinar del Río today. I am not sure what I will see, but it should be interesting to say the least. Everyone I speak to says that the area east of Pinar, or the Semi-Vuelta, was absolutely hammered by the two hurricanes in September. Read more
